Out-of-pocket costs to see Canberra GPs doubles as ACT’s low bulk billing continues

The average out-of-pocket cost to see a general practitioner in Canberra has doubled over the past decade, from $19.10 to $40.38, despite bulk-billing rates in the national capital rising just over 6 per cent across that period. Medicare figures recently released for the September quarter of this year show the ACT’s bulk billing rate hit 56 per cent, just 6.3 per cent above that recorded in the December quarter 2006.
